Schieder-Schwalenberg, Germany Continuous process in sewage treatment plant and external station
Automation technology from Phoenix Contact ensures the seamless operation of the sewage treatment plant and provides reliable open and closed-loop control and monitoring of the the main plant as well as four pumping stations and storm water overflow chambers.

The application
The OS2 remote control system had to be replaced with a Windows-based system in the Schieder sewage treatment plant for neutrality toward manufacturers. Managers from the neighboring water treatment plant recommend the technical software office iPATEC and the automation technology from Phoenix Contact to Schieder-Schwalenberg GmbH.
Open protocols that make connection to the existing systems easy have already impressed iPATEC in the previous projects. Other advantages of the system: flexible adaptation to individual requirements thanks to the modular design, clarity during troubleshooting and easier maintenance.
A reduction of the cable trees is possible by means of decentral division of I/O stations. After weighing the options, we decided on a complete modernization and conversion of all components to products from Phoenix Contact.

Solution
Antonio Algarve from iPATEC designed and programmed an automation solution for the Schieder sewage treatment plant and also created new options for controlling the process.
Within the scope of Ethernet-based seamless automation, two RFC 430 control systems are used in the central cabinet. In addition to the control and regulation of the process, the existing mosaic image has been integrated into the new automation concept.

Summary
In order to reliably monitor and control the distributed pumping stations and overflow chambers intelligent components are also used here and successfully integrated into the overall concept using Phoenix Contact remote control technology – Resy+.
