Internationality

Clearing center

Phoenix Contact supports a "clearing center" concept for international EDI connections.

This means that the entire communication between the customer and Phoenix Contact branches takes place via a central point in Germany. Each incoming message that is sent by the customer is forwarded to the corresponding addressee at Phoenix Contact. All outgoing messages are first sent to the clearing center and then forwarded to the customer.

Prerequisites for a working EDI connection

  1. An Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) is capable of exporting or importing business data as a file. This system acts as the target or original system for all business cases (order, order confirmation, delivery note, invoice, etc.).
  2. It is based on standard exchange formats (e.g. EDIFACT, ODETTE, ANSI X.12), communication services (e.g. ISDN, Telebox, eMail) and protocols (e.g. OFTP, X.400)
  3. "EDI converter software" that is capable of converting the business documents exported as a file into a standard exchange format (e.g. EDIFACT).
  4. Transmission of the data via service provider or Internet. If the Internet is used as a transmission medium, a suitable encoding procedure is recommended.
  5. Agreement to ensure regular comparison of master data between the systems to ensure that the transmitted data is high quality.

Roadmap to introducing an EDI connection with Phoenix Contact

  1. The enclosed questionnaire provides initial information and should be completed and returned to Mr. Geik by e-mail (ebusiness@phoenixcontact.com) or fax (++49/52 35/34 17 38).
  2. Phoenix Contact will then contact the named partners by telephone or e-mail to arrange an appointment to carry out the connection and clarify technical details.
  3. At the arranged appointment, the master data is compared. To do this, we will either send you the data from your most recently ordered items (e.g. in Excel) or you send us some data from your system which we will then compare with ours.
  4. When all technical issues have been clarified, Phoenix Contact sets up access to EDI. We than carry out a test run with test data.
  5. If the test is successful, both Phoenix Contact and the customer jointly activate the transmission of the business documents via EDI.
