INTERFACE Wireless - Industrial wireless communication

The INTERFACE product range of wireless signal transmission systems from Phoenix Contact can be used for easy and safe wireless transmission of analog and digital signals or serial data. This gives you as a planner and user access to a very simple transmission path for industrial fields of application.

Signals that could only previously be acquired with a great deal of effort or not at all are now fast and simple to acquire.

Depending on the requirements, the following three different wireless technologies are available:

Trusted Wireless

Trusted Wireless is a wireless technology developed especially for industrial applications. The FHSS method (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) is used for bandspreading, which guarantees high immunity to interference.

Trusted Wireless is characterized by the following positive features:

  • Wide range* from several hundred meters to several kilometers
  • Robust and reliable communication in an industrial environment
  • License-free ISM Band (Industrial, Scientific and Medical Band)
  • Good diagnostics options
  • High local system density of several hundred networks possible
  • Can be operated parallel to WLAN -802.11 and Bluetooth systems without interference

* The range can be considerably exceeded or fallen below and depends on the environment, antenna technology and the product used.

Bluetooth

With Bluetooth, which also operates on the FHSS principle, point-to-point connections can be established or local wireless networks with up to seven devices can be set up.

Owing to a variety of application profiles, the standard can be used flexibly for different tasks.

Bluetooth offers the following advantages:

  • Range* typically up to 150 m in industrial halls, as well as 200 m outdoors
  • Cyclical and fast transmission of small data packets
  • High local system density, i.e. problem-free parallel operation of many Bluetooth networks possible
  • Problem-free parallel operation of WLAN-802.11 networks
  • High data security due to 128-bit data encoding and device authentication.

* The range can be considerably exceeded or fallen below and depends on the environment, antenna technology and the product used.

GPRS

GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is an additional service to exchange data using the mobile GSM telephone network (Global System for Mobile Communication). The TCP/IP based GPRS connections have the following advantages:
  • Invoicing is based on data volumes and not on the connection time
  • Constant connection, i.e. no time-consuming dial-up procedure
  • Available worldwide in over 200 countries
  • Transmission speeds of up to 85,600 bps
