Preassembled spring-cage terminal block strips for the Deutsche Bahn
The Deutsche Bahn AG, with its business unit for special plants for vehicle construction in Halberstadt, was until the end of the eighties, a company belonging to the Deutsche Reichsbahn and was responsible for the construction of new passenger seat carriages and sleepers for first and second class.
First choice at the Deutsche Bahn in Halberstadt: Preassembled terminal strips with spring-cage connection system
Terminal blocks with spring-cage technology considerably cut the installation work as compared to conventional screw terminal blocks.
Since 1990 this special works of the Deutsche Bahn has not only been responsible for building new carriages, but also for the reconstruction and maintenance of passenger seat carriages and sleepers.
For reconstruction, the "donor" carriages (old carriages for modernization) are taken apart and refitted on site. This involves the complete steel construction, paint-work and inside furbishings, and the complete electrical system has to be installed from scratch. Wiring the individual components to form a whole system places high demands on the electrical connection system. Fast and inexpensive connections that also fulfill the requirements of EN 50155 are called for.

Complete refurbishment in the sleeper: When old carriages are refurbished, the complete electrical system is also modernized
Clip Project - Project planning software for the planner of the electrical system
The project planning software Clip Select provides support for the planners of electrical systems to help them in selecting the correct type of terminal block
In April 1999, fifty-two sleeping carriages were due to be refurbished. The shipment of preassembled terminal strips was agreed with the construction department responsible in Halberstadt. The project planning software,Clip Select, was the obvious choice, since it allows practical and time-saving project planning, and documentation.
The products are selected exactly according to the technical data, such as nominal cross section or function of the terminal blocks. The logics test simplifies project planning, since only suitable accessories are displayed. The parts lists for the required terminal strips and the CAD drawing are imported from MS Excel. The information is used for direct ordering of the terminal strips, which are then assembled by Phoenix Contact and shipped.
Particularly when many terminal strips with the same components are used, it is worth ordering ready assembled terminal strips

The spring-cage feed-through terminal blocks exceed the requirements of the applicable standards, particularly of EN 50155. They also ensure on the basis of the following
- DIN EN 50155,
- IEC 68-2-6/DIN EN 60068-2-6 and
- IEC 68-2-27/DIN EN 60068-2-27
by using vibration and environmental tests, such as oscillation (sinusoidal) and shock, that even in a harsh industrial environment, or when used on rail vehicles, connections with long-term stability are achieved.
